Conclusion
- Healthy cats: Only breed on healthy cats!
- Effective population: Make sure you have a big enough effective population! The inbreeding coefficient on 5 generations should be maximum 2.5% in average on all the matings done. Maximum approximately 5% on 10 generations.
- Inbreeding: Don't make individual matings between cats that are related more closely than cousins (maximum approximately 6.25% on 4-5 generations)!
- Openness: be open about eventual problems in contact with other breeders. It will be helpful to all in the long end!
- No panic: Avoid both hiding your head in the sand and demanding a too severe selection against possible health problems!
