Hip Radiographs - Information to the Cat OwnerTalk to your veterinary about the purpose of your visit; if your veterinary does not have the necessary equipment, he will be able to refer you to a colleague who has. IMPORTANT: If your cat has not yet been micro-chipped or tattooed, you must have that done either during the same visit or before. The radiograph must be identified with either micro-chip or tattoo number and the veterinary must check the identification of the cat. This is necessary for the results to be registered in the official Registry. It is also very important that you use the correct form otherwise the veterinary will not know where to send the form and the radiographs. If you would like to have an extra radiograph for your own files, please ask the veterinary for an extra one, as the radiographs sent in will be kept in the archives of the health programme for future reference. Radiographs are taken of the cat’s hips at 1 year of age at the earliest to get an official result. You can of course test younger cats as well (between 6 to 12 months; younger than 6 months might not give a reliable result) but then the result will be a preliminary one. It is not obligatory to sedate the cat, but a mild sedative (injection) can be given in order to make the cat lie still and stretched out in order to get a good picture of the hips. If the cat is calm and easy to handle a good picture can be achieved without using any sedatives. Most cats do not like the sound the camera makes and it is at this moment that many cats do not want to lie still. The mild sedation of the cat does not effect the HD test results negatively. The cat should however not be heavily sedated as this can have minor effects on the outcome of the evaluation. Before going to the veterinary to have your cat’s hips radiographed you have to fill in the part “To be filled in by the owner” on the form and sign it. The fee for the evaluation of the radiographs should reach the Swedish Maine Coon Cat Club’s account shortly after you have had the test done. Please clearly state that you are paying for “HD evaluation” and write your cat’ s name. A reminder is sent to the cat owner if payment has not been received when the radiographs arrive at the registry. You must bring the following to the veterinary appointment:
* The original form for HD-testing (duly filled in and signed), download it here! The veterinary sends off the radiographs together with the original form to the veterinary Dr Lars Audell. His address is clearly stated on the original form. Price-list including postage outside the Nordic countries:Please note that bank fees/transfer fees are not included in the prices below. The cat owner should pay all bank fees both in his own country as well as in Sweden. The club accepts no additional costs and will accept no checks. Payment should be made to Maine Coon-katten
Any surplus money will be used for lectures and research with focus on the health of our cats. The original form with the result will be sent to the cat owner as soon as the club has received the evaluated radiographs and the original form from Dr. Audell and when payment has been received by the club. The Swedish Maine Coon Cat Club will keep the radiographs for future research. Help!If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the contact persons for the health programme! |
