Outcross Cattery List
On this site, we have provided a listing of catteries that are working with cats that are less commonly related to most Maine Coon lines in the world. For example, cats that have lower than average amounts of the top five cats at the foundation level, or fewer of the most common ancestors (the clones) in later generations, as a tool for breeders looking for outcross. Please see our introduction page for more detail.
Under "criteria" you will find information on how we decide to add catteries to this listing.
We have also added a list of Maine Coon Foundation Cats. This is in no way an all-inclusive list of all outcross catteries and cats, merely a few examples. To the best of our knowledge these catteries are currently producing outcross kittens.

What is an "outcross cat"?
For the purposes of this list, we will define an "outcross cat", as a cat that meets at least one of the following criteria:
- 50% or less of the top five cats (average 65-70%) or
- 35% or less of the top three cats (average 50-55%) or
- 25% or less of the top two cats (average 35-40%) or
- 20% or less of the clones (average 30-35%)
For information on particular cats please contact the individuals below directly. We do not keep current information on every cat these catteries are working with. You can also search the Maine Coon Database: www.pawpeds.com for pedigrees of these catteries.
If you can suggest additions to this list, we would love to hear from you.

This is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of every outcross cat or cattery in existence, but rather a guide and an example of what it is possible to find through pedigree research.
To the best of our knowledge these catteries are currently producing outcross kittens.
A cattery or breeder not listed on this site does not necessarily mean they are not an outcross breeder.
The Maine Coon Heritage Site in no way recommends, guarantees or warrantees the health, temperament, winning potential, fertility, type, ect. of the cats and kittens of the catteries listed here. Pedigree information is provided by the breeders, accuracy is not guaranteed. This listing is for outcross information only; it is the responsibility of the breeder to research all other issues.
We cannot accept responsibility for transactions conducted as a result of contact through this list. The breeders and the individuals and organizations they deal with bear all responsibility for such interactions and any and all consequences.
We strongly advise you to always check recent references on breeders you wish to obtain a cat from. People change, those that were ethical and responsible breeders in the past, may no longer meet these standards today. Those that were breeding outcross kittens in the past, may be breeding only the more common lines today. It is impossible for us to check and recheck references on each breeder listed, so it may be that some that are listed are most certainly not the ones that we would recommend you to buy a kitten.
Criteria for being listed
In order to meet the criteria set to be an "outcross cattery", you must own 2 or more outcross breeding cats (for the definition of outcross, see this paragraph) and you must have produced at least one outcross litter within the last two years. Your breeding program also must include the provision to produce more offspring to meet the outcross criteria.
To be listed as "outcross cattery" please send us information on all your breeding cats that meet the criteria and copy of the pedigrees of the produced outcross litters. This can be done by filling out this questionnaire.
If you see catteries listed as an outcross cattery while they are no longer producing outcross kittens, then please let us know also.
The MCHS has the right to refuse or remove a cattery from this listing without any further notification.
